A few months ago we bought Darius a special "manly" cupcake recipe book. He brought the cookbook with his for his Spring Break visit this week and I decided to make a little project out of it.
I wrote down all the ingredients we would need to make the cupcakes and then we went shopping. The "project" part comes in here. I actually made two separate lists. One was my normal shopping list and one was Darius' cupcake list. We recently got Darius a pre-paid Visa card for traveling and so he can learn to use a debit. So, I thought this would be a good opportunity to teach him a tiny bit about shopping. When we made it to the store I handed him his shopping list and told him to get it done!
It was pretty interesting watching him wonder the isles with his own cart hoping the items would jump into the basket. He had no idea what half of the normal baking items were so it was a learning experience for sure. He did really well and we had a lot of fun. Next step is to teach him about price comparison!
When it was time to check out he put everything on the belt and figured out how to run his debit. He was confused about why he didn't need to sign the receipt so I explained his pin number was his signature and we talked a little about security and how it all works. Then I told him to get his bags off the carrousel because he was holding up the line and I was next. HAHA!
The cupcakes were made 100% from scratch and they turned out WONDERFUL! They are so, so good and we had a lot of fun with minimal clean up. Job well done Darius!
**disclaimer** If you noticed the recipe we baked is called "beer run"... we replaced the beer with soda! :)
